FAQ
What if I have someone who will be in the birth room with me already?
A doula never takes the place of another support person. A doula is there to assist in helping the family as a whole feel taken care of, heard and respected throughout the birth process. The doula can also teach other support people how to provide comfort measures, such as massage and how to encourage you throughout the birth process.
What if I’m having an epidural?
Wonderful! We will celebrate that choice along with you. Doulas aren’t only there to support those who choose an unmedicated birth; we support every decision you make along the way. Our goals are that you feel heard, validated and seen throughout your birth. That can happen with and without an epidural present!
What will be required of me to participate?
A signed contract
A willingness to take part in all aspects of the service as outlined
How much am I expected to pay?
Doula services through Humana are outlined with certain criteria. The scholarship you receive is based on current sliding scale guidelines and will be discussed fully with you after applying. Payment plans are available.
How is my doula paid?
Kentucky Doulas is not only dedicated to supplying clients with doulas, but to also equitably pay doulas for their work. We are grateful for our doulas’ compassionate care. Kentucky Doulas strives to encourage doulas to continue this work and provide them with a financially sound job opportunity. Who knows, maybe you’ll be a doula some day as well!
